Premiere medical centre in Manipur on agitation

Imphal:

The out patients who had visited Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal had to face several inconveniences on Monday as they had to leave the hospital premises with no treatments owing to the suspension of Out Patient Department (OPD) services jointly decided by four associations as a part of their ongoing 'cease work' strike.

The cease work strike called by teachers and Medical Officers’ Association, Non teaching Employees’ Welfare Association, Association of Junior Doctors’ and RIMS Nurses Association Teachers’ had jointly decided to suspend the Out Patient Department (OPD) services of the hospital from Monday.

The four associations have been undergoing cease work strike since February 6 demanding the regular payment of their salaries. They further revealed that Anbumani Ramadoss, union health minister had assured the payment of the employees’ salaries on the first day of every month during his visit in the Institute in May 2008. The minister had visited the Institute for extension of casualty block building.

Meanwhile, sources revealed that Dr L. Fimate, director of RIMS had talked to the employees’ that the salaries be paid within February 16.

However, some of the doctors, among the members of four associations while revealing that they had gone to Delhi for enquiry regarding the fund, they were being informed that 65 crores had already been released out of 70 crores and the 5 crores would be released only after the utilisation certificate for remaining the past fund are being produced.

Expressing apprehension on whether 5 crores would be adequate for all the employees’ for three months (January-March, 2010), members of the four associations stated the funds were mis-utilized and the members of four associations were not aware of it.
