Fuel stock drying up
Imphal:
The Senapati District Students’ Association (SDSA) sponsored indefinite economic blockade along the National Highway 39 leading to Manipur has begun to incur adverse effects in the state as the fuel filling stations in the state capital have begun to shut down due to shortage of fuel.
According to a survey conducted by NNN, barely two to three oil filling stations were opened in the state capital, Imphal. Several long queues were being made in the oil filling stations for purchasing fuel.
Interestingly, people were seen carrying empty containers to purchase extra stock of oil.To be on a safe side they are taking such step to preserve the extra oil in the containers.
Meanwhile, more than 100 trucks laden with goods were stranded at Mao Gate in the Manipur-Nagaland border while about 28 trucks laden goods were being escorted back to Impal.
It is worth mentioning that the indefinite economic blockade has entered the eighth day. The economic blockade has been called by the SDSA demanding to repair the NH-39 (Senapati-Maram section), establishment of a branch of State Bank of India (SBI) at Tadubi and opening of a fire sub-station at Maram.
K Ranjit, works minister while appealing to withdraw the economic blockade, revealed that works for repairing the roads have already been initiated.
